Education at Its Essence
Ken Robinson:
"The aims of education: to enable students to understand the world around them and the talents within them so that they can become fulfilled individuals and active, compassionate citizens."
When teachers have high expectations, their students will rise to greater heights. As a teacher, I want to provide the best learning experiences as possible so that they may perform to their utmost. I push them to explore different environments, meet new people and serve in ways that are out of their comfort zones. At the same time, they push me to do my best.
Furthermore, my students realize the experiences were valuable, and they discovered more about who they are and solidified who they want to become. Knowledge is absolutely important, but coupling it with application deepens understanding. This is the education I want my students to experience.
As a bonus, providing them opportunities to discover their playground will exercise their creativity to innovate in their own classrooms.
